Genrematic is a collection of posts on musical sub-genres, from Acid House to Zydeco, via Dub, Outlaw Country, Memphis Soul, Emo, and over 500 more.
In each post, the history of a sub-genre is explored before then presenting the reader with a list of notable artists and records that have helped to shape the sound.
The performance of records in the charts over the years is then considered, before we look into what authors and commentators have written and said about the particular genre.
Each post closes with a look at the social, cultural and technological context into which the genre emerged, before ending with a handful of recommendations for similar genres to explore.
Genrematic is also a book series! The first in the series is a general, pocket edition, Genrematic: A-Z journey through sub-genres of popular music, which presents 26 genres. Visit Amazon to order a paperback or Kindle copy.
Further editions dedicated to broader musical areas such as Rock, Soul, Country, Reggae, Dance, and many more, will soon be available.
